DC Kathua reviews functioning of Elderline  Service

KATHUA, OCT 21 – Deputy Commissioner, Kathua Rahul Pandey today chaired a meeting of stakeholder departments to review the functioning of Elderline-14567- a dedicated helpline for senior citizens implemented by HelpAge India in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare across Jammu and Kashmir.

At the outset, Field Response Officer Shafiq Hussain briefed the meeting about working of Elderline- National Helpline for Senior Citizens in the district. He said the district unit is helping senior citizens who call the helpline number to get help in the shape of  information, guidance and  emotional support. He said the field team of Elderline also rescues elderly in distress, provides care and assistance to the elderly with the help of stakeholder departments. It was informed that the senior citizens who are in need of assistance can call on toll free number 14567 daily from 8 AM to 8 PM.

The DC enjoined upon all the officers to extend full cooperation to the Elderline team in providing assistance/services concerning to their respective departments so as to ease out the difficulties faced by the senior citizens.

The DC further called upon all the stakeholders to create maximum awareness on Elderline -14567 in all parts of the district besides educating people about the National Helpline for Senior Citizens during ongoing Jan Abhiyan and upcoming Back to Village programme.

Among others, the meeting was attended by ASP Kathua Suresh Kumar, DSWO Kathua Abdul Rahim, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Rakesh Mangotra, other concerned officers and other representatives of JK Elderline.
