SRINAGAR – Parts of Srinagar observed a shutdown on Friday against the blasphemous comments made against Prophet Mohammad by two BJP spokespersons, one of whom has since been suspended from the party while another has been sacked.

Shops and business establishments remained closed in Srinagar’s city centre and in the old city, officials and witnesses said. Very less traffic was visible on the city interior roads.
No Friday prayers were offered at the historical Jamia mosque in Srinagar. No group had called for any shutdown on Friday.
Last week, protests took place at several places including the Srinagar over the blasphemous remarks.
