SRINAGAR –  Security forces shot dead two militants in an encounter in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said.

The gun battle erupted at Shitipora Bijbehara during an anti militancy operation which was launched on an input, they said.

“As the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately, which was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing gun battle, two terrorists have been killed,” a police official said.

A police spokesman said a search operation is going on in the area.

The encounter took place a day after four Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were in two separate operations.
