KOLKATA –  BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Friday evening hosted a sumptuous dinner to visiting union home minister Amit Shah at his ancestral home in south Kolkata where the former cricketer’s mother and wife Dona Ganguly oversaw the services. Besides the host Ganguly, his brother and Cricket Association of Bengal secretary Snehashish Ganguly, Amit Malvia, Suvendu Adhikari, Swapan Dasgupta, Sukanta Majumder were seen having dinner together on a round table. While Dona Ganguly was seen overseeing the services, her mother in-law was seen sitting on a cot watching her guests dining together. The menu was purely Bengali cuisine sans meat, fish and egg as the main guest is vegetarian. Shah, who arrived in the city on Thursday morning and had hectic schedules visiting the border areas of south Bengal and north Bengal and addressing the BSF jawans, sought to have a courtesy call to the BCCI president at the end of his official schedule, a BJP source said. However, the media was watching keenly since yesterday after it was known that Shah wished to have a courtesy call and visit Ganguly’s house at south Kolkata. The visit was said to be a courtesy call since the Union Minister’s son, Jay Shah, is the former cricketer’s colleague as the Secretary in the Board of Control for Cricket in India, or BCCI which Ganguly is heading now. Shah arrived at Ganguly’s home at Sir Biren Roy Road in Behala in a white SUV surrounded by bodyguards. On the arrival of Shah, Ganguly and his wife greeted him with a bouquet of flowers and then Shah was introduced to the members of the family at home. Ganguly, earlier in the day, told reporters that the visit was purely a courtesy call since they have known each other since 2008.
