AWANTIPORA – Two Day Inspire Programme under the theme “Catch Them Young” being organized by the Department of Physics, Islamic University of Science and Technology began here today. The speakers include eminent scientists and renowned academicians of the country who will be motivating graduate and 10+2 students towards studying physics for higher studies while they discuss the role of physics in relation with other modern courses like Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning etc.
The programme was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo. Prof. Romshoo, who praised the Department for taking the initiative to conduct the programme and making such outreach efforts possible which will benefit the budding students in taking inspiration and motivation to pursue Science in general and Physics in particular as a career. He also highlighted the role of University in outreaching to various College/Schools and creating the scientific awareness among students.
The keynote address was delivered by President, NASI Allahabad, Prof. Ajoy Ghatak who highlighted the historical development of Scientific Institutions in India and gave a brief review of the contribution of Indian Scientists in Science especially in the field of Physics Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Malik, while speaking on the occasion lauded the Department of Physics for making remarkable progress since its inception in 2016 and felicitated the galaxy of eminent speakers who will be motivating the participating students throughout this programme. Registrar IUST Prof. Naseer Iqbal, who is a renowned Professor of Physics himself highlighted the importance of conducting such programmes in context of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). He also highlighted the significance of conducting the Inspire Programmes for students by citing some exemplary instances, where the students have benefitted immensely from such programmes in the past.
Dean School of Sciences Prof. M. A Khuroo, in his address stressed on the importance of catching the students at young age and moulding their enthusiasm towards pursuing the career in Physics. He also appreciated the Department for conducting this programme.
Earlier, Head Department of Physics, Dr. Niyaz Ahmad Rather while welcoming the guests and participants talked about the Department of Physics and its achievements in a short span of five years. He also focussed on the necessity of conducting the INSPIRE programme to motivate students to pursue their careers in Physics. He also encouraged the students to avoid rote learning and focus on new ideas. Sr. Assistant Professor Department of Physics, Dr. Farooq Hussain Bhat, presented the vote of thanks. More than 150 participants including Faculty members and students from various colleges and schools of valley are attending the programme.
