SRINAGAR – The Department of Nephrology Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences celebrates World Kidney Day today to raise awareness on kidney health with focus on this year’s theme ‘Kidney Health For All”:  Bridge The Knowledge Gap To Better Kidney Care.

On the occasion the book “Apne Gurdun ko Bachaye” Urdu Translation done by Consultant Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani Department of Nephrology was also released.

Director SKIMS & Ex-officio Secretary to Govt. Prof. Parvaiz A Koul in his address congratulated the department for being the frontrunner in Kidney healthcare delivery services in and outside UT of J&K.  He said the department is not only providing excellent patient care services but is playing a phenomenal role in creating and raising awareness about kidney heath. At academic front start of Doctoral Program recently in Nephrology and Technician Courses in Haemodialysis is major milestone achieved by the department.

“CKD continues to be major area of concern and policy planners need to refocus and prioritize this area. The awareness at community level is critical to address the knowledge gap that contributes to rise in chronic kidney diseases”, he added.

Dean Medical Faculty Prof. Tariq A Gojwari complimented the organizing team for these educative programs and said such programs are critical in raising awareness among general masses.

Prof. Mohammad Ashraf Bhat HOD in his address highlighted the activities and achievements of the Nephrology department SKIMS.

During the program the experts deliberated on various issues pertaining to Kidney health and made presentations on various topics including Kidney Involvement in Diabetes Mellitus, Awareness about Kidney Diseases and Hypertension and Kidney diseases.

Besides, scientific presentations there was also panel discussion in which many faculty members participated including Prof.  Mohd. Ashraf Bhat HOD Nephrology,  Prof Salim Wani HOD Urology SKIMS, Prof Shariq Madoodi Endocrinology, Prof Muzaffar Maqsood Department of Nephrology.

The program was attended by Faculty, Students, Faculty from other academic Institutions and other guests and staff members of the Institute.
