NEW DELHI-Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory in four states. “Today is the day to celebrate the democracy of India. I thank all the voters who participated in the elections,” he said during his speech at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.

“BJP workers promised we will celebrate Holi early this year. I salute the hard work of our party workers and supporters,” the prime minister said.

“After the 2019 polls, some political pundits had said that the 2017 poll results had decided the 2019 outcome. I think they will say that the 2022 poll verdict decided the outcome of 2024 elections,” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an all out attack on the opposition over Ukraine crisis, saying some parties tried to create insecurity among Indian students who were being evacuated from the war hit country.

“BJP’s vote share has increased in Manipur, Uttar Pradesh and Goa, even after being incumbent. All exit polls were proven incorrect in Goa, and the people of Goa have given us the chance to serve them for the third consecutive time,” he added.

The results strongly vindicate BJP’s pro-poor and pro-active governance. Earlier, the people could not reach govts for basic amenities such as electricity, gas and water, Modi added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party registered a phenomenal performance in four states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. The saffron party and its allies were leading on more than 270 seats in Uttar Pradesh, retaining the state for the second time.

The BJP managed to retain Uttarakhand, successfully ducking anti-incumbency in the hill-state. However, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami lost the polls.

In Goa, the BJP won 20 seats, just one short of the magic figure in the 40-member Assembly. Meanwhile, the BJP is also set to form the government in Manipur.
