AWANTIPORA –  Department of Islamic Studies (DIS) Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) invited President of Maqasid Institute, Canada, a leading philosopher of Islamic law, Prof. Jasser Auda to deliver a lecture on “Maqasid-e-Shariyah” (goals, purposes of Islamic law based on the teachings of the Qur’an and the traditions of the Prophet’s (PBUH) Hadith and Sunna). The lecture was part of its ongoing monthly online lecture series.

In this disquisition, Prof. Auda deliberated upon “Maqasid approach to the Qur’an towards a Post-colonial discourse.

He brought to the limelight, among other things, the concept of the higher objectives of Islam and the methodology of reading the Qur’an, the Islamic Scripture, in the light of these objectives.

While referring to the “clash of ideas” vis-à-vis colonization and post-colonization, Prof. Auda argued for a Qur’anic understanding of the issues faced by Muslims  in the present times.

The session was attended by more than hundred participants, including faculty members, research scholars, students of IUST along with a number of other participants from other universities within India and abroad.

The session was presided over by Dean Academic Affairs, IUST, Prof. A. H. Moon, who in his presidential remarks, expressed his utmost pleasure with the event and congratulated the DIS department, for organizing such programs.

Earlier head, DIS, Dr. Afroz Ahmad Bisati, introduced the theme of the lecture, and delivered the welcome address.

The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Sheikh Jameil Ali Senior Faculty Member DIS and the session was moderated by Dr. Gowhar Quadir Wani, Asst. Prof. of DIS.

The lecture was followed by an engaging Question-Answer Session.
