SRINAGAR – In wake of overnight snowfall in the district, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad early Saturday morning toured various areas around the Srinagar city to inspect snow-clearance operation and take first hand assessment of other arrangements put in place to deal with challenges from the prevailing weather situation in the district.

Senior officers from MED, PWD, PHE, SMC, PDD, UEED and other Departments accompanied him during the tour.
The DC visited various areas of the City including Dalgate, Rajbagh, Lal Ded, Magarmal Bagh, Jehangir Chowk, Batamaloo, Bemina and other adjoining areas. He was informed that snow from most of the main roads have been cleared by the Mechanical Engineering Department and about 70 percent inner link roads have been cleared, while Srinagar Municipal Corporation is on job to clear the lanes and by-lanes for the convenience of the pedestrians.
The Deputy Commissioner also visited 132 KV Grid Station Bemina to take stock of the power scenario.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner was informed that power is being supplied to most of the City parts as per notified schedule and men and machinery is on job to restore the faulty feeders catering parts of the City. The DC directed the concerned departments to carry out the restoration measures at a fast pace to restore supply in next two hours.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed the officers of SMC, Fire & Emergency, UEED, to ensure dewatering at all water logged areas at an earliest. He also directed them to ensure snow clearance from all interior roads in the district. He stressed for close coordination between line Departments besides ensuring all Control Rooms established are functional round the clock for the convenience of the general public.
During the visit, the DC also instructed the officials to ensure their presence on the ground during night hours also in view of inclement weather so that public services remain uninterrupted/restored at earliest.
