SRINAGAR –  Hundreds of Sikh devotees in the Kashmir Valley thronged the Chatti Patshahi Gurudwara in Srinagar to pay obeisance on the occasion of Guru Purab, the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

Despite cold conditions in the valley hundreds of Sikh pilgrims, including women and  children thronged the Chatti Patshahi Sahib at Rainawari downtown.

The Chatti Patshahi Sahib was illuminated and decorated with colorful buntings on  the occasion. A member of Gurudwara on the occasion said that  special prayers were held for the people, peace, prosperity, and  traditional brotherhood of Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha tweeted: “Greetings to the people on Prakash Parv of Sri Guru Nanak Devji.”

Former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti tweeted: “Warm greetings to our Sikh brethren on Gurpurab. They have imbibed the human values & teachings of Guru Nanak ji in the true sense & there couldn’t be a better example than them offering space to muslims in Gurudwaras across Gurgaon for Friday prayers.”

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted: “Gurupurab greeting to everyone celebrating today. May the teachings of Guru Nanak JI continue to inspire humankind to be more loving & accepting of each other. Happy Guru Nanak Jayanti.”
