KOLLAM –  Kerala’s first online marriage was held at the sub registrar office in Punalur in this district on Saturday.
The marriage ceremony was initiated and overseen by sub-registrar T M Firoz, who later handed over the marriage certificate to the bride.
Bride Dhanya Martin lawfully wedded to Ukraine-based groom Jeevan Kumar who could not reach Kerala from Ukraine due to COVID related issues.

Though Dhanya Martin and Jeevan Kumar have filed an application in March last to register their marriage under Special Marriage Act.
Hence, they moved Kerala High Court seeking extension of the validity of the application and permission to officiating the marriage through video conference without presence of the both the parties.
Later, an approval was given in this regard taking the opinion of the State Government, the Union IT Department and the Foreign Affairs Department.
District Registrar C K Johnson witnessed the marriage through Google Meet, Sub Registrar Firoz overseen the ceremony and groom’s father Devarajan signed the marriage register on behalf of his son.
