SRINAGAR – Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, SKIMS, in collaboration with Indian Thyroid Society & M.P.PCOS Society organized Science Day-2021 on Thyroid disorders with a theme as “Thyroid Dysfunction: A non-communicable epidemic”. The Program was supported by Department of Science and Technology, J&K.

The event recorded a significant moment as SKIMS and Kashmir University signed MOU (Memorandum of understanding) for joint research collaboration in presence of Director SKIMS, Dr. A.G Ahangar, Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Prof. Talat, Dr. O.J Shah, Dean Medical Faculy, Prof. Farooq Masoodi Dean Research and Academic affairs and Dr. Ashraf Ganai, Prof. Department of Endocrinology and Sub Dean Research, SKIMS.

Prof. Talat, Vice Chancellor Kashmir University who was chief guest on the occasion in his address emphasized more joint/interactive sessions for deeper understanding of issues pertaining to society to benefit community at large scale. He said MOU between SKIMS and K.U will help in optimum utilization of resources and expertise. He further said exchange of academic material/human resource and infrastructure is important for better utilization as in most of the academic institutes the high end equipments remain under-utilised and appealed students and scholars to take advantage of this collaboration.

Director SKIMS &EOSG, Dr. A.G Ahangar welcomed the dignitaries and congratulated the organizers for conducting this event. He said Science Day has a great significance which is celebrated across the country to recall the contributions of renowned scientist “C.V Raman”. SKIMS has always been on forefront and contributed significantly at various levels. Commenting on MOU between SKIMS and K.U, he said that the collaboration will be beneficial for both the institutions. He emphasized the role of young scientists for the future of mankind on this planet using their effort and talent for making the life on this planet a “miracle safeguarded by collective wisdom”.

Prof. Omar Javid Shah, Dean Medical Faculty expressed his gratitude to the Kashmir University for support and emphasized the involvement of youngsters is critical in various initiatives.

Prof. Farooq Masoodi, Dean Research and Academic affairs Kashmir University said the two Institutes have always facilitated each other in terms of knowledge sharing,“Collaborations are always beneficial and advantageous”. Referring to    SKIMS & KU collaboration, he said “This collaboration will pave way for optimum utilization of researches/infrastructure”.

Mr. Nasir Ahmad Shah, Additional Director Department of Science and Technology while speaking on the occasion highlighted the role of Department of Science and Technology, J&K in research and informed that the department is ready to facilitate all those interested in research activities.

Prof. Mohd Ashraf Ganaie, Sub Dean Research, SKIMS, and organizing Chairman of the event thanked all the invitees for attending the event. He underscored the importance of science day to create awareness about various thyroid disorders which is emerging as non-communicable epidemic. He further added that the event is also significant as the two key Institutions SKIMS and Kashmir University is signing MOU for research collaboration which will help in mutual knowledge sharing, infrastructure and human resource. He thanked Prof. A.G Ahangar         and Prof. Talat for facilitating this joint venture.

During the event various research/Scientific papers on Key topics were presented by eminent scientists. The topics deliberated included; Thyroid dysfunction in Pregnancy, Thyroid and PCOS interaction, Thyroid in women health.

Dr. Munir Ahmed Wani, Organising Secretary presented vote of thanks and the event was attended by HOD’s, Faculty, Heads of Supportive services, Scholars etc.
