Chandigarh: At the call of Samyukt Kisan Morcha, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab observed ‘Black Day’ by carrying black flags and protesting in front of the Punjab Governor’s residence on Wednesday.

Led by party’s MLA and state Kissan Wing president Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Youth Wing president and MLA Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, the AAP workers and office bearers observed ‘Black Day’ and raised slogans in favour of the farmers’ rights and against the central government; demanding to repeal the three black farm laws.

On the occasion, Kultar Singh Sandhwan said at a time when the entire country was grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic; what was the need for the Union government to bring three black farm laws?

Sandhwan said the Union government had neither consulted with the farmers’ organisations nor with other political parties in the country to enact and implement the new agricultural laws.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have adopted a dictatorial attitude and issued an anti-farmer and anti-labour law,” he added. He further said six months had passed since the farmers of the country struggled against the black farm laws and more than 450 farmers had died, which was very unfortunate.

Sandhwan said the laws which were being opposed by the farmers, labourers and agronomists of the country; the Union Government should not insist on imposing such black laws in the country.

Addressing the media, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said while the country’s farmers had been agitating against the Union government for the last six months to get the black farm laws repealed; they were also fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. Hayer said more than 450 agitators had been killed in the movement, but the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government remained silent. He said every child of the country was standing with the farmers’ movement and that is why the Narendra Modi government should agree to the demands of the farmers and repeal the three black farm laws so that the pace of development of the country could be maintained.
