The Covid threat in India, which couldn’t prevail alone in the country, now, has brought one more deadly outcome with it called Mucormycosis, widely known as Black Fungus. This infection affects people who are recovering or might have recovered from the virus attack and have been on a high dosage of steroids during their battle with the Covid. Black fungus, until now, observing various cases in the country has proven to be fatal. This virus generates in the oral cavity of the infected person from where it enters the nasal cavity, thus infecting the sinuses, the brain, and the lungs; causing the death of the patients. This fungal infection affecting the ophthalmic tissue has resulted in the removal of an eye of various patients. The only state prompting this fungal infection is the usage of steroids while treating a Covid patient. The steroid has been an important material used in the treatment of Covid that has been noticed to accelerate blood sugar levels in a Covid patient – whether diabetic or non-diabetic. While the use of steroids is difficult to be contained while treating a Covid infected patient, to stop the growth of this fungus inside a human body is still a mystery to be solved. After the existent cases outside, Jammu has got its first case leading to the emergence of the Black fungus threat in the valley. There has been no advisory issued from the doctors across the country regarding the control of Black fungus. And the steroid is continuously being used as a primary means to hold inflammation in the lungs of Covid patients. How may either of the infections be interrupted should be cultured soon?
