Ambulance assistant held for sexually harassing a COVID patient

Malappuram: An ambulance assistant has been arrested by the police on Friday on charges of sexually harassing a Covid-19 patient while she was being taken to a scanning centre as part of her treatment.
The Perintalmanna police said the incident occurred on April 27 but was told by the victim to her doctor recently.
Police registered a case on getting the information from the hospital, where the victim is undergoing treatment for pneumonia.
The patient, native of Wandoor, was sexually harassed by the ambulance assistant Prasanth, while she was taken to a scanning centre nearby Perintalmanna in an ambulance on April 27.
The victim was physically and mentally down after the incident which caused the delay in her complaining about the shocking incident, sources said.
A similar incident was reported in Panangod in Thiruvananthapuram in which a Junior Health Inspector was accused of sexually harassing a Covid-19 patient after she approached him for obtaining a Covid negative certificate.
Another incident of an ambulance driver raping a 19-year COVID-19 patient occurred in Pathanamthitta in September last year.
