The Covid upsurge has led to various emergencies throughout the valley. The emergencies inclusive of critical ones have relaxed humans to an extent. While the administration is lying dormant in terms of solving immediate crises, self-help groups have emerged in Kashmir to the rescue of people. These self-help groups include Non-governmental and Non-profit organizations, Voluntary groups, Community groups, etc. These groups are serviceable and accessible throughout the valley. Young men and women have come to the front to voluntarily help people in distress throughout Kashmir. The region is facing the worst because of the Covid-led-lockdown and is on the verge of drowning, financially. The common people, especially the working class, have suffered enough and are barely left with anything to feed themselves and their families. It has become difficult for some to make both ends meet and are living from hand to mouth, whereas others have already surrendered to the miserable situation and are dependent upon the charity and funding others make. The unsophisticated government is turning blind eye to the hardships faced by the needy in society. There is no help from their side provided to the people except restrictions made to curb crowds, making sure people wear masks while they step outside of their homes, and establishing Covid rescue centers throughout the region. Rest, they have failed to put their efforts into helping people come out of distress or even ease their hardships. The poor section of the society which has become even poorer would have had no means of survival if these voluntary/community groups or NGOs weren’t there to help. Now is the time for the government to assist these groups and organizations for their smooth operation and work collectively for people (which is indeed an unattainable dream).
