963 people fined, 2 arrested for violating COVID-19 protocol in Kashmir

Srinagar: Police on Tuesday fined 963 people while arrested two persons for violating COVID-19 protocol in Kashmir valley.

A police spokesperson said that in its continuous efforts to sensitise the masses about controlling the highly contagious Coronavirus, the J&K Police has been organizing several public awareness drives, interaction programmes, distribution of masks, public announcements and distribution of pamphlets across Kashmir.

He said police in its efforts to implement Covid-19 guidelines strictly has arrested two persons and imposed fine to the tune of Rs 105,440 from 963 people for violating the guidelines/rules in the valley. “Besides, six vehicles were also seized for violating Covid-19 SOPs,” he said, adding the special drive against the violators of Covid-19 guidelines/rules continued in all the districts of Kashmir Valley.

Moreover, he said Budgam and Sopore Police held review meetings with the Imams, religious leaders and Auqaf Committees regarding adherence to the COVID-19 containment measures to be followed in Masajid. “The meetings were held at Police Stations Beerwah, Magam, Chadoora, Charar-e-Sharief, Tarzoo and Panzalla. The meetings were chaired by respective SHOs,” he said.

He said community members are once again requested to cooperate with the police in containing the spread of Coronavirus by following the SOPs/guidelines/protocols for the safety of the people. “The special drive shall remain continue throughout the districts of Kashmir Valley to strengthen the safety measures,” he added.
