With the increase in the number of Covid-19 infections, the government has decided to go with the option of lockdown in various states across the country. But the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is still waiting for the selection between ‘yes’ and ‘no.’ The second wave of Corona Virus is proving to be rapidly growing and fatal, maybe deadlier than the first wave itself. As the economy of the state has been hit badly by the previous lockdown, the authorities are trying not to rely on this option being first. This option should be kept as a final choice to fall upon. Protection is indeed needed to safeguard the lives of people in the shape of lockdown, but the way it fuels poverty in the valley needs to be considered. While every sphere of human life is hit worst by locking the valley down, the working class suffers most after the implementation of this measure. Covid-19 is a new norm to be accepted. It cannot end but will stay with us all along. We need to learn to live with it because there is no way we can opt for lockdowns frequently. Better is to learn to follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines that are issued globally alike. Lockdown can be a better option for now, but not always. We need to adopt measures that may work for long, not for time being. Besides, we need to care for our living also. In Covid times it seems poor either have to die starving or due to infection!
