Sheetal Nanda reviews functioning of SWD Jammu

JAMMU:  Secretary Social Welfare Department, Sheetal Nanda today chaired a meeting to review the functioning of Social Welfare Department (SWD) Jammu here.

The Secretary reviewed component-wise and scheme-wise, both centrally sponsored schemes and UT sponsored schemes, and their implementation across the Jammu division.

The meeting was attended by Director Social Welfare Department Jammu, Smita Sethi; Director Finance SWD, Deputy Director (Adm), Chief Accounts Officer, Deputy Director (P&S) and other concerned.

At the outset, Director Social Welfare Jammu, Smita Sethi gave a presentation and briefed the Secretary about the status of various welfare schemes being run by the department in Jammu Division.

The meeting was informed about the physical and financial achievements of the welfare schemes like old age pension, pension for physically challenged persons and pension for widows under implementation in Jammu division.

The Secretary directed the concerned officers to review quarterly the pension cases which would be de-weeded so that deserving awaited applicants are included which would ultimately minimize the pendency of the pension cases.

Besides, the Secretary was also briefed about the status of various scholarship schemes for SC, OBC, physically challenged persons, minority students, children whose parents are engaged in unclean occupation, economically backward classes etc.

The meeting also discussed various construction projects taken up by the department across the division.

To this, the Secretary asked the concerned to prepare detailed DPRs for each project and prototype so that those models could also be followed for other areas of Jammu division.

The Secretary also called for cent percent Aadhaar seeding of beneficiaries in order to check duplicity in schemes like old-age or other beneficiary related schemes.
