The availability of the parking slots is one among the main means to put an end to the traffic mess and congestion, thus having parking slots is inevitable at any place. However, the lack of parking slots especially at the government offices here has been leaving the commuters as well as the pedestrians to face tremendous hardships. With lack of adequate parking slots, the commuters are being forced to park their vehicles outside the offices here in Srinagar and elsewhere, thus adding to the chaos on the roads. One fails to understand when the space is available at most of the offices, why the common visitors are not being allowed to park their vehicles inside the office premises, which would not only reduce the traffic congestion, but also ensure smooth passage to the commuters as well. The commuters are being challaned almost every day for parking their vehicles on the roadsides. Although the action is appreciable, we need to understand that there are less parking slots available, which also cannot accommodate the huge number of vehicles. Most of the offices here in the Valley are lacking the basic facility of parking slots, which forces the visitors to park their vehicles outside the office premises and which usually creates traffic mess and sometimes the people have to pay a fine for illegal parking. Therefore, there is a need to come up with a decision that would favour both—the government as well as the people so that the commuters could heave a sigh of relief. There is a need for a proper coordination between the people as well as the concerned department so that a favourable solution will come out till the number of parking slots are increased.
