Exactly a year ago, on 17th of March 2020 the first case of coronavirus was reported in Srinagar which pressed a panic button and prompted administration to impose lockdown to contain the virus and its proliferation. The lockdown remained in force for next couple of months with total compliance.

The fear of getting the coronavirus had made people to remain confined to four walls, even people preferred to perform the religious obligations at home instead of moving out. The dreadful nature of virus with no remedies had made the lives of masses miserable. Social distancing, masking and other relevant things were the norm of the day during that period.

But gradually the fear of the pandemic goes off with every passing day. People hardly care now about this dreadful disease even as experts suggest the second wave has the potential of creating havoc. The question is, are we naive or deft, the disease is wondering around us and the daily emerging reports confirm it.

Now, we are at the phase, where onus lies on both of us (People and Government). People should not be reluctant in wearing masks and maintaining social distance, simultaneously, the government should work on a rapid vaccination programme so as to ensure everyone gets jab to beat the pandemic at earliest.
