Street vendors need to be vacated

The illegal occupation of roadsides have only added to the miseries of the people, especially commuters, who face tremendous hardships while reaching their destinations due to the huge traffic mess, caused by the illegal occupation of the roadsides. Although the government has been taking measures to give suitable places to the street vendors for ensuring smooth passage of the commuters. However, the number of street vendors is too high, thus couldn’t accommodate the huge number of street vendors, who are installing their carts in Srinagar areas especially in the commercial hub Lal Chowk. From time to time, the government has been claiming to have taken measures for giving suitable places to the streets vendors, but all in vein as there has been no concrete steps so far to put an end to the sufferings of people as the street vendors continue to occupy the roadsides illegally in Srinagar areas. Therefore, there is a need to put an end to the illegal occupation of roadsides by vacating all the street vendors in a limited time period so that the things could be eased for the commuters here. The government must consider taking elaborate measures for the street vendors here for their rehabilitation and also for the smooth passage of the commuters. The illegal occupation of the roadsides are one among the main reasons behind the traffic mess, thus it becomes imperative to rehabilitate the street vendors so that the commuters too could heave a sigh of relief.
