SRINAGAR: A day-long intramural research grant meeting was held at SKIMS under the auspices of sub- dean research in which over 50 research scholars and faculty members of the SKIMS Deemed University made their research presentations for seeking institutional financial assistance for their research projects made available by SKIMS for this purpose.

Director, SKIMS, Prof. A. G. Ahangar said that “SKIMS is always on forefront in serving people of J&K and beyond through their best patient care services as an institution par excellence in healthcare sector of the Jammu and Kashmir. He further congratulated Prof. M Ashraf Ganie and his team for organizing the research grant meeting and mentioned that we will continue to achieve greater heights in our academics and research too and will ensure to make all necessary facilities and infrastructure available to our faculty and scholars in this regard”, he added.

While addressing the budding researchers of the Institute, Dean, Medical Faculty, SKIMS, Prof. Omar Javed Shah impressed upon them to follow highest possible ethical standards and never resort to unethical practices in research. He urged them to be steadfast on their goal towards excellence and never say quits. Prof. Shah expressed satisfaction that SKIMS is making strides in patient care, academics as well as research and is gradually emerging as a centre of excellence in the whole country. He advised the medical fraternity of SKIMS to maintain these standards at all costs and persistently keep improving them with the passage of time.

In his welcome address Sub-dean Research, SKIMS, Prof. Mohd. Ashraf Ganie urged upon the researchers to pursue high-end, locally and socially relevant, context-specific, need-based and cutting-edge research of international standards and apply for financial assistance to major funding agencies of the country besides availing the intramural grants of the SKIMS deemed university. He called for fostering interdisciplinary  and collaborative approaches in research and urged upon the budding research to ensure translational value of their research so that the research output directly benefits their patients in one way or the other and adds to the body of literature in science. Prof. Ganie impressed upon the need to constitute a Research Consortium in J&K for greater collaboration and cooperation among institutions in research.

The event was attended by panel of eminent experts both from within and outside SKIMS, who evaluated the research projects for disbursement of financial assistance.

During technical sessions several useful tips for improving the research methodology and design besides securing grants were given to the presenters by the experts. Funds to the tune of Rs. 96 lakhs is to be distributed for research projects presented during this intramural research grant meeting.

The research grant meeting concluded with felicitation of the experts with ‘Certificate of Reviewing’ by Prof. A. G. Ahangar, Director, SKIMS.
