Bengal has new DGP P Nirajnayan after Election Commission removed DGP Virender

Kolkata: Poll bound West Bengal has a new police chief DGP P Nirajnayan, a 1987 batch IPS officer, after the Election Commission removed incumbent Director General of Police Virender with immediate effect.

“P Nirajnayan , IPS ( RR-1987) be posted as Director General & IGP of West Bengal in place of Virender, IPS with immediate effect,” the EC order on March 9 said.

“Shri Virender should not be given any post which directly or indirectly relates to conduct of election,”

said the order, which was directed to the state chief secretary.

“Compliance of the Commission’s order may be done immediately. Kindly inform the Commission about the compliance latest by 10.00 am tomorrow (March 10),” the order stated.
