Agartala: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today virtually addressed a gathering on the third anniversary of BJP-IPFT government in Tripura here and lauded the development initiatives of the state government.

Three years ago in 2018 assembly polls, the people of Tripura had created a history by pulling down a corrupt and anti-people left front government and installed a double engine government led by BJP in the state, he told the gathering assembled at the Vivekananda Stadium.

Not only infrastructure and good governance, BJP-IPFT government has created confidence in the peoples’ minds to become and outperformed the previous regimes in development indicators, the Prime Minister claimed.

“Today, we can compare the development of three-year-old BJP-IPFT government with 30 years of the previous governments. The Central government had supported Tripura with only Rs 3500 Cr between 2009 and 2014 but after 2014 this rose to over Rs 12000 Cr and now it has become an example before many big states,” Modi pointed out, adding that the state GDP has increased six times in the last three years under BJP-IPFT rule.

Listing the achievements of the Tripura government, he said the benefit of cooking gas has been passed on to 8.5 lakh families in Tripura, almost cent percent villages have become open defecation free, government employees are given salaries on time as per 7th central pay commission, piped potable water has been provided to five lakh families and in last years connectivity infrastructure has developed manifold.

“I had promised to give you HIRA (Highway Internet ways, Railways and Airways) before the 2018 elections and today I am happy to see the changes in Tripura and the happiness prevailing among the people of the state. Tripura got this benefit only because of same party rule in Centre and state what many of the neighbouring states are not getting,” he said.

In three years farmers, daily wage earners and small entrepreneurs have got benefits due to the BJP-led government in Tripura.

“In the next two years the state would become an example of development before the country,” he said.

Earlier, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hassina, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma have also addressed the gathering, highlighting the development initiatives of the government.

After opening Maitri Setu, Prime Minister also inaugurated Integrated Command and Control Centre – first of its kind in Northeast set up at Agartala, for effective traffic and security control in the city, National Highway between Agartala and Udaipur, 40,000 houses built under PMAY urban scheme and state PWD roads besides.

The PM also laid foundation stone for setting up integrated checkpost at Sabroom in South Tripura, National Highway 280 to connect Kailashahar of North Tripura with Khowai of West Tripura, Multilevel Car Parking and Commercial Complex at old Motor stand in the city and a project for widening Agartala Airport Road from two lanes to four lanes.
